The best beaches of Malia & Stalis

Alexander Beach

The beautiful long sandy beach of Alexander Beach Hotel offers relaxing moments under the Cretan sun and a variety of water sports, such as water skiing, parasailing, jet skis, and family-friendly water fun with the banana boat, fun-rings, flying fish pedaloes and canoes. The beach is well organized with comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas. If the sea is wavy, you can always enjoy the hotel freshwater swimming pools that also feature a children’s’ section, water slides, and a baby pool. Plus, whenever you feel hungry or crave a refreshing cocktail, you can visit one of the hotel beach bars and restaurants, serving top quality dishes and drinks. Alexander Beach is perfect to spend an entire day by the beach, in close proximity to a variety of facilities and services!

Stalis Beach

The main beach of Stalis (or Stalida) is situated between Malia and Hersonissos, attracting mainly families as the water is shallow and the beach is well organized. Stalis beach is near hotels, restaurants, bars and a variety of shops. There is also a small colony of Cretan Palm trees, one of the few in the area. If you are tired of the beach (unlikely!) and the sun is not too strong, you can follow an uphill walking trail that ascends from Stalis to the traditional village of Mochos in 5km. However, keep in mind that there is no shade on the way, so take your hat and lots of water!

Malia Beach

The 6km long sandy beach of Malia is the main beach of the area and also the most crowded! The fine sand and shallow water makes it perfect for kids, and families can find every comfort they may need, as the beach is organized. In Malia beach you are in close proximity to a large variety of restaurants, bars, cafes, and services such as beach massage and more. The eastern part of the beach (close to the archaeological palace of Malia) is usually less crowded.

Potamos Beach

Away from the crowds and the main beach of Malia, the sandy beach of Potamos offers the same comforts in a more tranquil environment. In Potamos you can also see a small wetland of great environmental significance, as it hosts many species of birds and rare coastal vegetation. The wetland is crossed by a lovely river that spills into the sea. If you walk around, you will also discover small sand dunes and more isolated places to relax. Plus, Potamos beach is near the Archaeological Site of Malia, which is definitely worth visiting before you hit the beach!
